Sick trees need to come down this week

I'm sending this out so that no one is surprised but unfortunately two of our large trees outside the College Ave. entrance will be coming down this week.  The two problem trees are these:
located between the wall and the McIver Statue. Both of these trees have had previous trim work and disease control work done in order to save them.  But they have continued to deteriorate and warrant removal for the safety of students who use to lawn and protection of the statue if limbs fall or the entire tree was to be uprooted in high winds.  A close up of the problem is below:

The good news is that as part of UNCG's designation as a Tree Campus USA participant, both of these trees will be replaced with 6 additional trees on campus, each and these two will be replaced later in the spring with appropriate "stand ins" to compliment the surrounding landscape.

These two trees have served the campus and Jackson Library very well for many years and we do not want to remember them as something that caused damage or harm to persons or property.  The work is expected to take place soon to take advantage of spring break, so this is a heads up.
